Week of 9/18 Inland Volleyball Preview

Many leagues are already underway but a few others get going this week. Here are a few matches to keep an eye on around the area:

Monday 9/18:
Ambassador League-Notre Dame/Riverside @ Loma Linda Academy 6pm: After a stretch of 5 ranked opponents in 10 matches the road to a league title does not get any easier this week. This Monday evening special is for early control of 1st place at the halfway mark of rd 1 and starts a back to back to back for the Titans.

Citrus Belt League-Citrus Valley @ Cajon 4:30pm: This match will be live streamed by our partners at IEMG (Inland Empire Media Group) and is also for early control of first place in the Citrus Belt. Winner will join Yucaipa (should they take care of business against Carter) in first place after 4 matches. These two teams met each other in Queens Court play earlier with the Cowgirls coming out on top in 3 sets.

Citrus Belt League-Redlands East Valley @ Redlands 4:30pm: This is a pivotal matchup for both sides. Winner evens their league record at 2-2 and keeps themselves in playoff position. Loser falls to 1-3 and at least based on last year has their backs against the wall early in a league where 8-6 was the last automatic playoff berth.

Arrowhead League-CSD/Riverside @ Carnegie 5pm: The Wolverines entered last week ranked 4th by the division 10 coaches. After losing in 5 to unranked Sherman Indian and getting swept by Upland Christian Academy this match starts a pivotal early season back to back which could determine early Arrowhead League playoff positioning.

Tuesday 9/19:

Arrowhead League-Carnegie @ California Lutheran 6pm: Two of the playoff representatives from this league a season ago look for a pivotal early season win to get on track.

Non-League: Temecula Valley @ Orange Lutheran 5:45pm--One more non league test for the Golden Bears as they head back into Orange County for a matchup against Div 2's #6 rated team in the Lancers of Orange Lutheran. It'll be interesting to see what kind of bump Temecula Valley gets in this week's div 1 poll after knocking off Long Beach Poly in the Dave Mohs final at Edison.

Ambassador League: Linfield Christian @ Loma Linda Academy 6pm--A very much improved Lions team looks for a quality Ambassador League road win. They've taken a set from Notre Dame & Woodcrest Christian on the road. I think the biggest question will be what effect playing Monday night will have on the Roadrunners.

South Valley: Santa Rosa Academy @ Rancho Christian 5pm--In my interview with Rancho Christian head coach Rochelle Short she expected this to be a good test early in league play. In the most recent Div 9 poll Rancho Christian was ranked
4th and Santa Rosa Academy was 10th. Steve Jones makes his debut as Rangers head coach in league play. He replaced Daniella Murrieta.

Wednesday 9/20

Ambassador League: Ontario Christian @ Woodcrest Christian 6pm-- The Lady Royals face another Ambassador League back to back at home with Arrowhead Christian making the trip on Tuesday evening in addition to this contest. Both teams need this win in the worst way to maintain contact with the league’s leaders.

Big 8 League: King @ Corona/Santiago 4:30pm-- The only team to push Santiago into a deciding 5th set a season ago makes their first trip into Corona and visits Div 2's #3 rated team according to last week's poll.

Thursday 9/21

The Southwestern League gets going and there are no easy matches in this league which combines the Murrieta and Temecula public schools.

*Temecula Valley @ Murrieta Mesa 4:45pm--After a record breaking preseason the Rams enter Southwestern League play with the biggest test you could get to start in Temecula Valley. The Golden Bears look for a good performance to start their league schedule.

*Great Oak @ Chaparral 4:45pm--Both teams reached a tournament final in preseason. A season ago both meetings went 5 sets and the season series was split.

*Murrieta Valley @ Vista Murrieta 4:45pm-- Two of the league’s rookie head coaches in Ed Taitano at Vista Murrieta and Ann Romero-Parks at Murrieta Valley square off.

Friday 9/22

The Sunbelt League also gets going with Elsinore @ Perris, Paloma Valley @ Temescal Canyon, and

Friday 9/22 & Saturday 9/23
