Eagles win emotional road match & create tie for first in South Valley League

Thursday, October 5, 2017 By: Derryl Trujillo  Inland Sports Volleyball Correspondent  Fifteen days ago Santa Rosa Academy visited Rancho Christian and came back with early control of the South Valley League race. Two weeks later in Menifee Rancho Christian returned the favor and prevailed 3-1 by scores of 22-25, 25-18, 36-34, 25-15 to create a first place tie atop the South Valley League with four matches to go. In set 1 Santa Rosa Academy got off to a 13-6 start behind 3 aces at the service line. Rancho Christian fought back to make it a competitve set falling by a margin of 25-22. Any kind of momentum from both sides was generated behind the service lines in sets 1 and 2. In set 2 Emma Baker got the Eagles off to a 7-2 start which was quickly erased as the Rangers fought back to grab a 9-8 lead. From that point it was all Eagles as the Ranger offense was slowed by really effective serving by Rancho Christian. Set 3 was where the momentum turned and you could real...

Eagles return to floor victorious after 10 day layoff

By: Derryl Trujillo Inland Sports Volleyball Correspondent Wednesday, October 4, 2017 Rancho Christian last took to the court on September 23rd for a tournament in San Diego. Sometimes that kind of layoff can have an adverse affect on a team. That was not the case on Tuesday night however as the Eagles set up a first place showdown on Thursday evening in Menifee with Santa Rosa Academy by knocking off Calvary Murrieta 25-14, 25-8, 24-26, 25-18. Senior Emma Baker led the Eagles effort with 18 kills recording 4 errors on 27 attempts hitting .527%. She added 9 digs and 3 aces to the effort. Sophomore Emily Vaniman added 10 kills with 3 errors on 20 swings for a .350% hitting percentage and added 2 blocks 4 digs. I asked Eagles head coach Rochelle Short if the layoff was weird and she said that it actually came at a perfect spot in the schedule right before the start of 2nd round action. Baker echoed her coaches comments saying that after a break like that it's just a matter of...
